NPR History
NPR was founded in the year 1970. The organisation has been active for almost 49 years now. The organisation had replaced the National Educational Radio Network in the year 1970, after following the Congressional passage of the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967. This particular act was signed into law by the 36th President Lyndon B Johnson and thus established the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which also had created the Public Broadcasting Service for television in addition to NPR as well. During the 1980s, the organisation suffered an almost fatal setback in 1983, when the efforts to expand services created a deficit of nearly $7 million. Then the Corporation for Public Broadcasting agreed to lend the network the required money in order to stave off bankruptcy.
