Pepperidge Farm was founded in the year 1937. The company has been active for almost 72 years now. The founder of the company was Margaret Rudkin. In the year 1940, the company’s first factory was established as well. Rationing during WW II had forced the company’s founder to cut back production due to the restricted availability of quality ingredients. Then in the year 1947, Margaret had opened a modern commercial bakery in Norwalk, Connecticut, and soon after added plants in Illinois and Pennsylvania, USA, as well. During a trip to Europe, in the 1950s, the company’s founder had discovered fancy chocolate cookies that she believed would be popular in the USA as well. In the year 1960.
