Safeway History
Safeway was founded in the year 1915. The company has been operational for almost 104 years now. The founder of the company was Marion Barton Skaggs. The company started when the company’s founder had purchased his father’s 576 square feet grocery shop for $1,089. The chain of the company had been operating as two separate businesses, namely – Skaggs United Stores and also Skaggs Cash Stores. The company has been quickly growing during that time, with the help of the founder’s five brothers, into a network of stores. The main aim of the company was to give more value to the customers and thus keep a thin profit margin as well, which had been proved to be successful. By the year 1926, the company had opened almost 428 stores in nearly ten states in the USA. The same year, the company had merged with 322 Safeway stores and thus was incorporated as Safeway Incorporated.
