Perkins Restaurant And Bakery was founded in the year 1958. The company has been active for almost 61 years now. The founders of the company were Matt Perkins and Ivan Perkins. In the 1960s, the chain had expanded as a franchise. One franchisee in Minnesota, Wyman Nelson, had introduced an expanded menu and also an aggressive advertising campaign in the year 1967. From the year 1969 to the year 1978, Wyman Nelson had consolidated Perkins and another chain, Smitty’s, into Perkins Cake & Steak as well. In the year 1979, the founders of the company had retired, selling their remaining interest in the company, including trademark and distribution rights as well. As of the year 1979, Perkins became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Memphis-based Holiday Inns.
